Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Bio
Part of a long tradition of providing game day support and entertainment, these iconic women represent a major turning point in cheerleading history. The 1960s marked the beginning of organized cheerleading alongside National Football League teams. The first squad on the Dallas Cowboys’ sidelines was the CowBelles & Beaux, a group of high school students managed by Dee Brock. The CowBelles cheered their team all the way to the 1971 Super Bowl Championship. In preparation for the Cowboys’ defense of this title during the 1972 season, general manager Tex Schramm recognized professional football’s entertainment potential and initiated a makeover of the squad. After a failed attempt to satisfy this market by hiring professional models to decorate the sidelines, Dee recruited Texie Waterman, one of the top dancers in America to judge auditions and create a squad of dancers. When Dee’s group stepped out onto the Super Bowl X field in Miami with new star spangled uniforms and sophisticated, multi-genre dance moves history was made and ‘America’s Sweethearts’ were born. Now in their 30th season, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are led by two former DCC – Kelli McGonagill Finglass and Judy Trammell. Off the field, the DCC spend most of their time contributing to charitable events and appearing for carefully screened photographs, interviews, and TV segments. In their own words ‘they are often imitated…they are never equaled…they are the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders!’
