Shaun White became a household name in snowboarding circles long before the 2006 Winter Olympics. Five straight years of X Games medals had made him one of the sports biggest stars.But White was largely unknown in the American mainstream before heading to Torino, Italy. That all changed in a few days.White, with his long red hair and outgoing, fun-loving personality, became a media darling after winning the gold medal in the halfpipe competition.Today he is one of the country's most recognizable and popular athletes. He's also one of the action sports most versatile and decorated performers.White has 10 medals in Winter X Games competition, including six golds (four slopestyle, two superpipe). He won the 2006-07 World Snowboard Tour.
